The Rheumatology Division is committed to increasing the numbers of fellows and faculty from under-represented minorities (URM). We seek fellows of all backgrounds, belief and perspectives and we strive to create a welcoming and non-biased environment. This reflects the commitment within our institution to honoring the “dignity and equality of all persons—inclusive of sex, gender, marital status, pregnancy, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, and veteran status.”
The Department of Medicine established the Diversity Council in 2002 whose mission is to promote increased recruitment, retention and advancement of faculty, fellows and residents from groups under-represented in medicine as well as to promote an inclusive environment across the department. We have Rheumatology faculty within the Diversity Council who together with representation from our current fellows, play an active role in screening applications and selecting URM applicants for interview.
All together the Division of Rheumatology represents a collective experience that draws on multiple countries of origin (America, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Philippines, Germany, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Korea, to name a few) and we believe we are stronger together.
